Quincy C. Newell

Managing Attorney


Quincy Newell is a 30+ year veteran of the entertainment and media business. He has held senior-level executive posts at a variety of independent and mainstream music and film companies including HITS MAGAZINE, Warner Music Group’s RHINO ENTERTAINMENT, Ventura Distribution’s URBANWORKS ENTERTAINMENT, Universal/Vivendi’s CODEBLACK ENTERTAINMENT, HIDDEN EMPIRE FILM GROUP, and LIONSGATE, where he served as EVP & GM of Lionsgate’s subsidiary CODEBLACK FILMS. Most recently Mr. Newell served as Of Counsel at SANDERS ROBERTS LLP and helped to launch and lead the boutique litigation firm's entertainment transactional practice.

Throughout his career, Mr. Newell has handled hundreds of transactions across the industry spectrum including film, television, music, and digital media. He has negotiated deals on behalf of celebrities, producers, and production companies such as: Kevin Hart, Tyrin Turner, Hidden Empire Film Group, NEO Studios US, Codeblack Films/Lionsgate, celebrity chef and TV host Monti Carlo, Ventura Distribution, Grand Hustle Films, TIP “T.I.” Harris, historian and author Adrian E. Miller,, afro-punk band We Don’t Ride Llamas, and award-winning novelist Dan Abnett among others. Adept at understanding all facets of his clients’ strategic needs, he regularly helps his clients achieve their short and long-term goals.

Mr. Newell has served as a producer on over 20 projects. His production credits include: superstar comedian and actor Kevin Hart's break-out concert films "Laugh at My Pain" and "Let Me Explain,", Shaquille O’Neal’s “All Star Jam“ comedy concert series, and the T.D. Jakes’ feature film "Woman Thou Art Loosed: On the 7th Day”, among others. Newell was nominated for an NAACP Image Award for his role as Producer on T.D. Jakes’ "Woman Thou Art Loosed: On the 7th Day."  He also wrote and produced the critically acclaimed 2009 Sundance Film Festival documentary film "Why We Laugh: Black Comedians on Black Comedy" alongside its director Robert Townsend; and its follow-up "Why We Laugh: Funny Women" with producing partners Sheila Ducksworth and the late Joan Rivers.

Mr. Newell earned his Juris Doctor from University of West Los Angeles School of Law. He also earned his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Pepperdine University’s Graziadio School of Business, where he is also a board member and an adjunct professor. He was awarded the school’s Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2018. He also sits on the Board of Directors of OTT.X (formerly the Entertainment Merchants Association) and is a member of the Producers Guild of America.

Mr. Newell has a passion for mentorship, inspiring him to pen and publish the book, “Insights: If Boys Never Learn, Men Won’t Know” with the goal of offering words of mentorship to young men of color seeking guidance in their lives.

Mr. Newell loves to travel, surf, is a recreational triathlete, a producer, a husband and a dad to four great kids.

Hector is an entertainment industry executive with over 30 years of experience as an attorney, musician, writer, record producer, content creator, whose work has won a CLIO AWARD and has been GRAMMY-nominated. He’s worked for and with some of the biggest names in media including UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP, PARAMOUNT/VIACOM, WARNER BROS. DISCOVERY, and artists like JAY-Z, ALICIA KEYS, and FAT JOE.

Hector Almaguer was raised in Miami in a Cuban household. His childhood combined the best of multiple cultures and gave him a world view that has always been part of his creative process. He studied music and spent over a dozen years as a record producer, publisher, and running an independent record label.

Hector Almaguer tells the story of how in the middle of a very successful music career, he felt his skills on the business side were lacking and it was then he decided to attend law school. While running these very successful music businesses, Hector Almaguer attended law school at the University of Miami and emphasized his studies there in intellectual property.

His clients say that his experience as a creator gave him an insight that most lawyers simply don't have. Through it all and at the center of his career is his deep understanding of what it means to communicate through media and the understanding of intellectual property. He has been a professor and lecturer at the University of Miami as well as for professional entertainment industry seminars and it’s clear that he has a passion for content both as a creator and legal professional.

Maura Montalvo

Maura Montalvo is a bilingual paralegal, receiving her Paralegal Certification from The University of Houston Downtown. Mrs. Montalvo started her legal career in 2011, and has enjoyed every moment. Mrs. Montalvo is experienced in Family Law, Immigration, Criminal Defense, Insurance Defense, Civil Litigation, Civil Pre-Litigation, Criminal Prosecution, Mass Torts, Corporate Agreements, Company Formations, Probate, and Estate Planning. She also has extensive knowledge of State and Federal filing systems.


Mrs. Montalvo gained trial experience after being with the Harris County District Attorney's office for 1 year. She was in the courtroom daily, preparing motions, exhibits, and last-minute filings. Working for the District Attorney's Office meant sometimes receiving case information the same day of trial, requiring her to quickly and accurately absorb case facts.

Other than her work, Mrs. Montalvo's pride is her family. She and her family's life motto is, "A day without learning something new is a day wasted."
